Mississippi Valley Presbytery
Constituted in 1931 when the Memphis and Louisville Presbyteries
merged. It now includes the states of Arkansas, Kentucky, Mississippi,
Missouri, and the western part of the state of Tennessee west of
the Tennessee River, It is a regional governing body of the General
Synod of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church (ARP).
There are 25 member congregations representing 1,361 members
in the five-state region that makes up Mississippi Valley Presbytery.
Churches range in size from a handful to over 200 members.
The Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church has been faithfully
preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ for over 200 years. Its roots
are traced to the Reformation, particularly the work of John Calvin
and John Knox. Scottish immigrants who came to America in search
of religious freedom brought the faith to these shores .
The ARP Church of today began as a primarily rural denomination
concentrated in the Southeast, but has followed the flow of people
into urban centers, across the country, and into Canada. With
just over 250 congregations, relationships are strong between
individual churches as well as members. We stand firm on the tenets
of Reformed theology as stated in the Westminster Confession of
Faith, but our worship styles range from traditional to contemporary.
The singing of metrical versions of the Psalms, a tradition of
long standing, is still encouraged, though we endorse a variety
of songbooks for use in worship.
We hope you will visit one of our churches. There you will find
people and resources ready to help nurture your relationship with
Jesus Christ. To find out more about the ARP Church, please feel
